About

Hi there! I set up this blog to be a record of my experiments with Excel just in case they are of interest to anyone more than me (although, it is mostly a fun distraction for me!)

I am an Excel enthusiast and a Financial Modeller based in Chelmsford, UK. I enjoy discovering new things that Excel can do, finding ways to incorporate new Excel features into my existing work and tools, and trying to accomplish things that Excel was probably not originally designed to do.

I have experience in building and reviewing financial models of varying sizes and complexities, as well as building bespoke Excel-based tools, and even building entire custom Excel add-ins. Having used Python for data analysis separately to Excel (mainly Jupyter notebooks) and importing the results back into Excel, I have started looking at working with Python directly in Excel, and I always find myself wanting to work on my Power Query skills some more but getting distracted by something else.

Currently, I am most interested in:

  • creating flexible and reusable Lambda functions
  • building financial models using Excel’s Dynamic Array functionality;
  • creating cleaner, clearer, more modern looking visuals and charts in Excel; and
  • developing useful VBA tools to make my Excel experience easier.

With this blog I hope to share the bits and pieces that I discover and create, and I will do my best to talk through my development process, how things work, and how you might want to incorporate them into your own Excel work flow.
